Achieving good behaviour

Win Win Discipline is designed to handle problems at the moment of the disruption with powerful discipline strategies and it was created by Dr. Spencer Kagan.
Actually all we know that every child is unique but at the same time all of them are equal while speaking about physical and mental capacities. Their behaviour depends on the environment, the majority of them brings their problems to the classroom and they don´t know how to manage it. The most important thing is to find out what is happening to our students. When we are capable to end up with their problems or find solutions to control the situation the disruptive behaviour tends to disappear.
There are 4steps which can help us to handle the discipline:
  1. IDENTIFY THE BEHAVIOUR (ABCD)
  • Aggression
  • Break class rules
  • Confrontations
  • Disengage (absence of motivation)
    2. IDENTIFY THE POSITION
    There are 7 positions which our students can take:
  • Attention Seeking
  • Avoiding Embarrassment
  • Anger Venting
  • Control Seeking
  • Energetic
  • Bored
  • Uninformed
     3. RESPOND IN THE MOMENT OF DISRUPTION WITH A CAREFULLY SELECTED 
     WIN-WIN STRUCTURE
       Win-win structures:
  • End the disruption quickly and refocus students
  • Communicate that the disruptive behaviour is unacceptable
  • Acknowledge students position
  • Work with students to find solutions
  • Take steps to create long term learning of responsible behavior and life skills
4. STRUCTURE A WIN-WIN FOLLOW UP
  • Use Responsible Thinking
  • Reestablish Expectations
  • Use Replacement Behaviour
 Win-Win Discipline includes a number of follow-ups to be used in accordance with the other aspects. Follow-ups allow the teacher to keep the student in check. The student realizes he/she is still held accountable for making appropriate choices regarding behavior. Follow-ups would include any behavior plans, positive feedback, contracts, improvement plans,etc. Follow-ups are necessary because students need to understand teacher expectations are the same from day to day.
